Dr Alister Mackenzie is perhaps one of the most recognizable names in the history of golf course architecture. Responsible for such courses as Cypress Point, Royal Melbourne and arguably the most iconic of all, the Augusta National Golf Club, Mackenzie first started designing golf courses around his hometown of Leeds. Golf courses have evolved over time and various architects have added their own distinctive features or remodeled individual holes or entire courses. Mackenzie is most certainly in this category.
I have been most grateful for the expert help and advice from Neil Crafter. Neil has over 25 years’ experience as a golf course architect, is a founding member of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects and an accomplished amateur golfer being a four-time South Australian Amateur champion.
